About us

Overview

We, the RobOtters, are a four-year First Lego League team based in Menlo Park, California. We founded the team at the beginning of the Into Orbit season, forging a dedicated, STEM-focused group of students eager to make an impact. Over our years of operation, team members have come and gone, and our team has evolved and developed. This page will give you a look at the effect our team has had on our community, as well as look into the lives and interests of the individuals that make (and made) our team.

Our name, explained

Our team name, the Rob-Otters, seems to bring confusion to many people who hear it. So, we thought we'd explain it here.

Our original body of team members all consisted of students from an elementary school with an otter mascot. We decided to combine "robot" and "otter" to create the ultimate name and source of confusion: The RobOtters.

Impact

We have made a great positive impact on our community, spreading opportunities throughout local schools and parents.

Our team has provided a chance for students who enjoy working with technology to go above and beyond the scope of what is possible as an individual. Our success has rippled through our schools and local news. We have even recently started a junior RobOtters team, as well as aided in the foundation of yet another new team, bringing younger kids into the wonderful world of FLL.
